Community Outreach

Empowering communities.

Problem: Many communities don’t know what to do when a bear comes into town. For some communities, a bear in town may be a new occurrence and they don’t know who to call or if they should be afraid. Other communities where bear sightings are common, many people are wary of calling CPW because they don’t want the bear to be harmed, thus keeping the information secret.

Solution: We educate communities on what to do in order to keep bears out of town, and what to do if they see a bear in town. We respond to immediate needs when a community calls for support.

Case Study: Colorado Bear Coalition provides workshops on removing attractants and increasing deterrents. We give presentations to local schools, HOAs, Rotary Clubs, table community events and Farmers Markets. We walk neighborhoods where bears have been seen to determine why the bear was there and then work with the community to remove attractants. We provide immediate and ongoing support in response to specific bear incidents and work with the community to reduce the risk of a bear returning or staying.

Critical Elements for Success: Empower communities with the knowledge and tools to keep bears out of town.
